Matteo looks out the window, his back to Cameron. Rain begins to streak the glass.

MATTEO (Voice low, dangerous) Sofia had no sisters. No cousins. I had her bloodline searched three times over after her death. You shouldn't exist.

CAMERON (Her voice trembling) I grew up in foster care in Boston, Mr. Duca. I have no family. I came to New York six months ago just to survive.

Matteo turns around slowly. He walks toward her, stopping just inches from her chair. He leans down, his dark eyes searching every millimeter of her face.

MATTEO And yet my son—who hasn't let a human soul touch him in two years—knew your face before you opened your mouth.

Leo stirs in Cameron's lap, clutching her apron tighter. He looks up at Matteo, then back at Cameron, resting his forehead against her heart.

LEO (Softly) Don't let Daddy make you leave.

Cameron's eyes fill with tears. She wraps her arms securely around the child.

CAMERON I’m not going anywhere, Leo.

Matteo stares at the two of them. The icy barrier in his gaze slowly cracks, revealing a profound, agonizing loneliness. He reaches out—his hand hovering over Cameron’s shoulder—before gently laying his palm over his son's head.

MATTEO (Quietly) Neither am I.

He looks up, meeting Cameron’s eyes. A silent, unspoken agreement forms between them—a mystery left unsolved, but a broken home finally beginning to heal.

MATTEO (CONT'D) Double her salary. Move her things into the guest suite.

CAMERON Mr. Duca, I’m just a maid—

MATTEO Not anymore, Cameron. You're the only truth this house has left.

He turns to the black marble fireplace and tosses the photograph into the faint embers. The photograph catches fire, curling into ash—burning away the ghost of the past to make room for the woman sitting before him.

Leo closes his eyes, finally falling into a peaceful sleep against Cameron's chest.
