The room fell silent.

The little girl was still crying, clinging tightly to the man's waist.

He slowly straightened himself.

His face was filled with rage.

He looked at the older woman in the sparkling gown.

"How dare you?"

She didn't answer.

For the first time, the smile had disappeared from her face.

She looked past him.

She looked directly at the little girl.

Then she noticed the small necklace around the child's neck.

Her eyes widened.

She knew that necklace.

"Where did you get that?"

The little girl stopped crying.

The man immediately stepped in front of her.

"Don't you dare come near her."

The older woman stared at him.

"Take off that necklace."

He refused.

She took one step closer.

"That necklace belonged to my daughter."

Everyone in the room froze.

The man's expression changed.

The little girl slowly touched the necklace.

"I found it in Mommy's old box."

The older woman's face turned pale.

"Mommy?"

She looked at the man.

"Who is this child's mother?"

He said nothing.

The older woman suddenly understood.

She reached for the little girl's hand.

The man tried to stop her.

But she noticed a tiny birthmark on the child's wrist.

Her breathing stopped.

She had seen that mark before.

Twenty years ago.

On a baby she was told had died.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"No..."

The man looked terrified.

The older woman whispered,

"That child was never dead."

The little girl looked up at her.

"Why are you crying?"

The older woman could barely speak.

Because the truth she had buried for twenty years was standing directly in front of her.

And the man holding the child had known the truth all along.

She turned toward him.

Her voice trembled.

"You lied to me."

He remained silent.

She stepped closer.

"All these years..."

She looked at the little girl again.

"...you made me believe my granddaughter was dead."

The man's face went completely pale.

Then the doors behind them suddenly opened.

A woman stood there.

The same woman from the old photograph.

Alive.

Everyone turned toward her.

The little girl stared at the stranger.

And the woman whispered,

"Mom..."
