The crime boss's reaction upon learning the long-buried secret.

The red emergency lights pulse against the dark oak walls. The HEAVY THUD of steel shutters sealing the windows echoes through the estate like a vault door shutting.

DR. ADRIAN VALE (50s) stands near the far corner of the study, holding a sleek black tablet. The red glow illuminates his cold, methodical expression.

DR. VALE You built this house into an impenetrable fortress, Victor. You just never imagined it would become your tomb.

VICTOR CASTELLANO raises his pistol, his voice dangerously low.

VICTOR You poisoned my wife. You kept my son silent so he couldn't tell me what he saw.

DR. VALE Audrey was going to expose the offshore accounts I managed for your rival families. She had to be removed. And Leo... Leo was a unfortunate witness. I didn't want to kill the boy, Victor. But you made it impossible when you brought her into this house.

Dr. Vale taps a command on the tablet. The ELECTRONIC LOCK on the heavy study door CLICKS SHUT.

A faint, hissing sound erupts from the ceiling vents. White gas begins to pour into the room.

IRIS DAY holds LEO tightly against her chest, covering his mouth with her apron.

IRIS (panicked) Victor! The vents!

DR. VALE Halon gas. In three minutes, the oxygen in this room will be completely depleted.

Dr. Vale steps toward a hidden panel behind the bookshelf—his private escape route.

Victor fires TWO SHOTS. The bullets shatter the wall beside Vale, but Vale slips through the secret door, slamming it shut behind him.

Victor rushes to the secret panel, slamming his shoulder against it. It won't budge.

VICTOR (coughing, strained) Iris... get Leo near the floor!

Iris crouches low, her mind racing. Leo’s tiny hands tremble against her neck. He raises his hand, frantically tapping her shoulder.

Leo signs: Water. Desk. Button.

Iris’s eyes widen. She looks toward Audrey’s silver-framed photograph on the mahogany desk.

IRIS Victor! Audrey’s desk! Leo says there’s a button!

Victor lunges across the room, sweeping papers and glass off the desk. Beneath the silver photo frame, he finds a CONCEALED MANUAL OVERRIDE SWITCH—Audrey’s secret safeguard.

Victor slams his hand onto the switch.

THE HISSING STOPS.

With a deafening MECHANICAL ROAR, the steel shutters on the main windows disengage, and the heavy study door UNLOCKS. Fresh, freezing winter air rushes into the room.

Outside in the hallway, FOOTSTEPS echo as CASTELLANO GUARDS flood the corridor, guns drawn, surrounding the fleeing Dr. Vale.

GUARD LEADER (O.S.) We have him, boss! Secure the doctor!

The tension in the room collapses. Victor drops his gun onto the desk, his chest heaving as he looks at Iris and his son.

Iris sits on the floor, holding Leo.

Leo looks up at his father. Then he turns his small face toward Iris.

For the first time in eight agonizing months, a clear, sweet voice cuts through the silence of Castellano Manor.

LEO (softly) Thank you... Mama Iris.

Victor freezes. Tears well in the ruthless crime boss's eyes. He drops to his knees beside them, wrapping his powerful arms around both Iris and his son.

VICTOR (whispering, voice cracking) I promised half my empire and my hand in marriage to whoever brought his voice back... But you just saved our lives, Iris.

Iris looks into Victor’s eyes, then down at Leo, who is smiling against her shoulder.

IRIS (softly) I didn't do it for an empire, Victor. I did it for him.

VICTOR I know. Which is why you're never leaving this family again.

Victor pulls them both closer as the snow falls softly outside the open window, finally bringing peace to the house of Castellano.
