part 2
Here is a powerful, cinematic conclusion for your story:
The five words, written in a child’s trembling hand, cut through Darian’s chest deeper than any quiet betrayal ever could.
He hadn’t gone away. But he had been blind.
Darian reached the bottom of the staircase, the heavy silence of the white mansion wrapping around the room like ice. He did not look at the stunned guests. He did not look at the towering floral arrangements or the satin ribbons lining the grand foyer.
He looked only at Camille.
"Darian, darling—" Camille took a step toward him, her voice carefully pitched to sound shocked, hurt, innocent. "She surprised me. I was just trying to maintain some order while—"
"Pack your things," Darian said.
His voice wasn’t loud. It didn't carry the rage of a man shouting, but the absolute, immovable weight of a door closing forever.
Camille froze, the color draining entirely from her face. "What? Darian, don't be ridiculous. We have guests, the caterers are arriving, the magazine—"
"Pack your things," he repeated, stepping between her and the little girl. "You have thirty minutes before security escorts you off the property. Anything you leave behind will be burned."
"You’re choosing a child's misunderstanding over us?" Camille gasped, her composure finally cracking, exposing the sharp, ugly franticness beneath. "After everything I’ve done for this family? For this house?"
"You didn't do anything for this family," Darian said softly, looking down at the pristine white marble that had felt like a tomb for months. "You tried to erase my wife. And then you tried to erase my daughter."
He turned his back on her—and on the wedding, the scandal, and the illusion he had almost traded his life for.
Darian knelt on the cold floor in front of Layla. He didn't care about the guests watching, or the story that would spread through high society by morning. He reached out and gently pulled the tiny girl into his arms, lifting her up against his chest.
Layla wrapped her small arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder.
"I'm not going anywhere, baby," Darian whispered into her soft hair, holding her so tightly he could feel her tiny heart beating against his. "Daddy is right here. And we’re going to bring the drawings back."
As Camille’s angry heel-clicks faded down the hall toward the guest suite, Darian walked with his daughter back up the sweeping staircase. Behind them, the picture-perfect wedding was dead.
In its place, the house began to breathe again.
