Let's see who will step in to help this little girl.

INT. MANSION FOYER - CONTINUOUS

The camera cuts directly to ARTHUR WHITMORE (68), imposing and silver-haired, standing near the marble archway holding his phone. He listens intently as the call continues over the speaker.

ARTHUR Repeat that, Maya. Slowly.

MAYA (OVER PHONE) (Voice cracking) Clare replaced Lily, Dad. Mom turned her away at the steps because she didn't "match the aesthetic" of the photographs. We’re in the car. Lily’s crying in silence.

Arthur’s face hardens into stone. He lowers the phone without a word and turns toward the bustling foyer.

Through the grand glass doors, DIANE and CLARE stand near the wedding arch, laughing with guests. Across the room, a sleek, stranger’s child with dark styled curls holds a matching flower basket.

Arthur steps toward the podium at the front of the altar.

He picks up the leather-bound ceremony program. He opens it, scans the printed page, and sees a strange child's name listed under Flower Girl.

He reaches for the master microphone resting on the podium.

The feedback WHINES sharply through the crystal chandeliers. The string quartet stops abruptly. Two hundred guests go still.

ARTHUR (Voice booming through the speakers) Good evening, everyone.

Diane smiles nervously, stepping forward to adjust her pearl necklace. Clare quickly smoothed her satin dress.

CLARE (Whispering loudly) Dad, what are you doing? The ceremony hasn't started!

Arthur ignores them. He holds up the printed program for the entire room to see.

ARTHUR Six months ago, my granddaughter Lily practiced walking down our living room rug every single night. She counted her steps. She memorized every petal. To her, this wasn't an aesthetic choice. It was her family.

A low murmur ripples across the seated guests. Diane’s face turns pale.

DIANE (Hissing, stepping onto the altar) Arthur, put that down right now. You’re embarrassing Clare!

ARTHUR (Looking straight at Diane) No, Diane. You embarrassed this family the moment you turned a seven-year-old child away at the front door.

A collective gasp echoes through the ballroom.

Clare steps forward, her cold composure breaking into rage.

CLARE Dad! It’s MY wedding! I wanted the aesthetic to be cohesive! The photos are going to be in Vogue Weddings!

ARTHUR (Voice icy, steady) Then you can take those photos alone.

Arthur grips the printed program in both hands and rips it cleanly down the center. He tosses the shreds onto the white aisle runner.

ARTHUR (CONT'D) This estate was built on my family's name, financed by my trust, and hosted under my roof. I will not celebrate a union rooted in vanity and cruelty.

He turns to the head usher standing by the double doors.

ARTHUR (CONT'D) Escort the caterers out. Shut off the lights. The celebration is over.

DIANE Arthur! You can't cancel the wedding! The guests—the investors!

ARTHUR The guests are free to leave. And the investors can see exactly what kind of heart my younger daughter has.

He lays the microphone down on the altar with a heavy THUD.

Clare drops to her knees, clutching her satin skirt as she begins to wail in frustration. Diane rushes to her side, glaring helplessly at her husband, but Arthur doesn't look back.

EXT. ESTATE DRIVEWAY - NIGHT (CONTINUOUS)

The camera tracks Arthur as he pushes open the heavy oak front doors and walks briskly down the grand marble steps.

Near the gate, Marcus’s car is parked, engine idling.

Arthur approaches the rear window. Marcus rolls it down.

Inside, Lily sits in her car seat, still clutching her wicker basket, her small eyes wide and red.

Arthur’s expression softens completely. He bends down to eye level with the window.

ARTHUR Lily, sweetheart.

LILY (Quietly) Grandpa... did I do it wrong?

Arthur reaches in, gently taking her tiny hand.

ARTHUR You didn't do a single thing wrong, my sweet girl. In fact, your grandma and aunt made a big mistake, so I canceled the whole party.

Lily blinks, stunned. Maya turns around from the front passenger seat, tears welling in her eyes.

MAYA Dad... you didn't have to—

ARTHUR (Looking at Maya, firm) Yes, I did. Nobody excludes my granddaughter.

Arthur unlatches his jacket, pulls a small silver envelope from his pocket, and hands it through the window to Lily.

ARTHUR (CONT'D) I bought ice cream. The whole parlor downtown is reserved for us for the next two hours. What do you say we scatter those white roses all over the ice cream shop floor instead?

A faint, brilliant smile finally breaks across Lily’s face. She holds the basket tight and nods.

LILY Can I throw the pink petals first?

ARTHUR (Smiling warmly) You can throw whatever petals you want, baby.

Arthur opens the passenger door, steps inside, and pulls the door shut behind him. The car rolls down the driveway, leaving the dark, silent mansion fading into the distance behind them.

FADE OUT.
