If you're curious about Part 2, come here to watch it.

Emma pulls her hand out from her sweater pocket. Wrapped around her small fingers is a tarnished silver woven bracelet—Daniel's watch strap, the last item her father wore before he passed.

She reaches out, placing the heavy silver bracelet directly into Lorenzo's large, scarred palm.

EMMA

(Voice fragile, raspy)

This was my daddy's. It makes you feel brave when you're cold. You can keep it.

[CAMERA QUICK-PAN TO LORENZO]

Lorenzo’s steel-gray eyes widen. His hand closes around the silver strap. He stares at the child, the stoic mask he wore for decades completely fracturing.

LORENZO

(Voice low, almost a whisper)

Your father gave you this?

EMMA

(Nodding weakly)

He told Mama that love means giving people the warm stuff when they're cold.

Lorenzo looks from the silver bracelet down to the $5,000 envelope sitting untouched on the table. He picks up the money and tossed it into the fireplace without hesitation. The bills catch fire, turning into ash in seconds.

SOPHIA

(Gasps, pulling Emma back)

Mr. Duca—!

LORENZO

(Standing up, towering over them)

That money was a test, Sophia. I leave cash in every room to see who in this house serves me for money... and who serves out of greed.

He crouches down to Emma’s eye level, his harsh posture melting as he gently wraps her yellow wool blanket back around her shivering shoulders.

LORENZO

(Continuing, voice thick with emotion)

In forty years, no one has ever given me warmth. Everyone takes. Except your daughter.

He stands and looks at Sophia with absolute authority and protection.

LORENZO

(Continuing)

You no longer clean this house, Sophia. Starting today, my personal driver takes Emma to Massachusetts General. The best doctors in Boston will treat her tonight. And your husband’s debts... are officially wiped clean.

Sophia's eyes fill with tears as she pulls Emma tightly against her chest. Lorenzo gently tucks the silver bracelet into Emma’s pocket and turns toward the library door.

LORENZO

(Pausing at the doorway, softly)

Keep the blanket on her. She saved my life tonight.

[CAMERA ANGLE: WIDE SHOT - THE LIBRARY]

Lorenzo steps out, closing the door softly behind him. Sophia drops to her knees on the burgundy rug, crying tears of relief as she holds her sleeping daughter close by the warm glow of the fireplace.
